Federal funding for domestic violence ‘not enough’

The new federal government has announced they are spending an additional $100 million dollars to combat domestic violence. Greens senator Larissa Waters applauds this move, but also says more needs to be done. In particular, she notes the continued cuts to homelessness and housing services, as well as the chronically underfunded family court system.

I also spoke to family lawyer Heather McKinnon on this issue, she focused on the lack of legal funding available for victims of domestic violence, and the need for greater support for the medical and psychiatric profession when dealing with domestic violence cases.
