NT Royal Commission receives new leaders

Malcolm Turnbull’s royal commission into the Northern Territory’s youth detention system has been given a second chance with appointment of former Queensland justice, Margaret White, and Indigenous community leader Mick Gooda.

Professor Aron Shlonsky has worked in the Northern Territory and advised on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and says the Northern Territory Commission must focus on finding solutions, not just examining evidence.

    In 1995, the Commission received letters patent widening the terms of reference to include investigating the activities of organised paedophile networks in New South Wales, the suitability of care arrangements for at-riskminors and the effectiveness of police guidelines for the investigation of sex-offences against minors.
