This piece was written in early 2012 and is reposted here for posterity. . They were easy to forget amidst all the drama and anticipation of the state elections, but slowly and surely the local council elections have been creeping up on the Moreton Bay Regional Shire. Scheduled for the 28th of April, this years’ election features a mayoral challenge from Greg Chapman against the incumbent mayor, Allan Sutherland. Mr Chapman has been vocal in his opposition to Cr Sutherland, blaming the mayor for issues such as the rates rise, high infrastructure fees and  the loss of control over water supplies, as well as causing division within the council. If elected, Mr Chapman intends to lower development and infrastructure costs in the region, and “govern the area as a whole for the benefit of all.” Chapman has also stated that he will not hire any media managers, or ‘spin doctors’ if he is elected mayor.
